I am available for public lectures on the history of wrecking, and on the history of Alaska. Please contact me and we can brainstorm some ideas for a bespoke lecture for your group. I am also available as an historical consultant on maritime history for the media.

I am already scheduled for the following presentations:

  • 4 June 2014– ‘Jibber the Kibber, the Pirate Wrecker and False Lights:  Folklore and Wrecking in Britain’, Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, in conjunction with their ‘The Power of the Sea exhibit’.
  • 4 February 2014– ‘Those sons of Plunder: Daniel Defoe and the Wreckers of Kent’, for Dartford University of the 3rd Age.
  • 22 November 2013– ‘Jibber the Kibber, the Pirate Wrecker and False Lights: Wrecking in Cornish Folklore’, University of Helsinki, Finland.
  • 5 November 2013- Maritime Crime: Wrecking Then and Now, seminar at University of Exeter.
  • 2 November 2013- ‘The Cornish Arundells and their Right of Wreck’ taster session to launch The Maritime History of Cornwall, ed. by Philip Payton and Helen Doe (Exeter University Press), at Falmouth’s National Maritime Museum Cornwall.
  • 1 November 2013– ‘Jibber the Kibber, the Pirate Wrecker and False Lights: Wrecking in Cornish Folklore, for Fowey Harbour Heritage Association.
  • 30 October 2013– ‘The World of Jack Lookout and Tom Plunder: Wrecking in East Sussex’, for Lewes’s Greyfriar’s Residential Home.
